Nearly every day of my life involves mosaics in one form or another. Between collaborating and planning installations, working with students and friends or simply gluing stuff to other stuff, I am immersed. Welcome to shiny pieces...

oops...it's been a while

I am coming up for air and to tell you what I've been up to.

Some of my adult student masterpieces:

Other interesting news in my mosaic universe....

I have been called in to restore/repair this groovy mid-century mosaic by Joe Young. It is installed over the bar in a gorgeous home that is an architectural gem in its own right. The mosaic dates to 1958. Here is a link to an article about the artist.

And this is a picture of the young Joe Young, working with a hammer and hardie. The mosaic I am restoring is smalti and glass tile. It depicts monuments of Europe, including Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower and what looks like the Colosseum.

It has gooey blobs of tar on it from when the previous owner "got tired of looking at it" and covered it with mirror panels. Honestly, people do the darnedest things sometimes. I am honored to work on this one.

Lastly, a few images from my most recent installation up in Goleta, CA. I haven't named the mosaic yet but I love how it turned out.

the mirror really shines at night.

breaking the silence

I've been away...but I'm back. Working on a new project for Tiff & Mike's house. This is to be their front walkway.

in istanbul

Here I am in one of the oldest and culturally rich cities in the world. Yes, I went to the Hagia Sophia today and saw dozens of amazing mosaics crafted hundreds of years ago made of smalti and gold. But those are famous and easy to research elsewhere.

I was also taken by these orbs lighting up the street near our hotel. I want one...will make when I get home. School project anyone?

tying up loose ends...

I'm leaving for Turkey tomorrow, then India. So I won't be posting here for about 6 weeks. I will, however, be posting on the veggie voyager...  www.theveggievoyager.com

Here are the last few projects to come out of the dungeon as of late.

See you in April!
